“Your priesthood is not the fulfillment of your mission, but the beginning”, Cardinal Joseph Coutts

Karachi (Br. Sunil Sarfraz): Where the month of September is attributed to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the gift of the Mother of God to the Archdiocese of Karachi has been received in the form of a new priest at the beginning of this blessed month.

On the morning of September 1, 2020, Deacon Rashid Aslam was ordained as a priest at St. Patrick’s Cathedral by the hands of His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Coutts. While addressing on this joyous and auspicious occasion, His Eminence Cardinal Joseph Coutts said “His priestly sanctification was not the fulfillment of the purpose of serving him, but the beginning, for which likewise the prophets and apostles hard work, hardship and sacrifice will be required”.

He also requested the believers to keep offering special prayers for the newly appointed priest.

Growing up with five siblings in a Catholic family, yes to God’s call, Fr. Rashid began his priestly education at St. Pius X Minor Seminary on September 3, 2007, and began studying philosophy in 2014. He later completed his theology education in 2019 from Christ the King Major Seminary. On February 5, 2020, he was appointed as deacon in the Archdiocese of Karachi, during which time he served as a pastor at St. Philip’s Parish and he is still serving at St. John’s Parish. You will continue to be an assistant parish priest in the same parish.
