Fr. Anthony Martis was a man of commitment, obedience and service, Archbishop Benny

Karachi: The Funeral ceremony for Fr. Anthony Martis (Fr. Tony) was held on November 18, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Karachi. He slept in the Lord on 16th November 2024 after a long illness.
His mortal remains were brought to the St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Karachi at around 2 pm for the public homage.




The Eucharist was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Benny Mario Travas, Archbishop of Archdiocese of Karachi. Co-celebrants included His Excellency Bishop Indrias Rehmat, Bishop of Faisalabad Diocese, Fr. Edward, and Fr. Arthur Charles. A large number of clergy and the faithful were present on the occasion.

Scripture readings came from the Book of Wisdom and the Gospel of St. Matthew, offering comfort and hope to the grieving community.

Homily of the Archbishop

Today, we gather to bid farewell to Fr. Anthony Martis, a devoted priest who served the Archdiocese of Karachi for decades. For 8-9 months, Fr. Tony endured immense pain due to illness, but his commitment to God remained unwavering.

I extend my gratitude to the clergy for their care and support during his illness. I also thank the doctors and nursing staff of Holy Family Hospital, Karachi, for their compassion.

Ordained in 1966, Fr. Tony served in Quetta and various Karachi parishes. He embodied commitment, obedience, and service. His love for clergy, especially new priests, was remarkable. A faithful and humble servant, Fr. Tony dedicated his life to God.

In times of grief, I recall an author’s quote: “Death is nothing else but coming home.” Fr. Tony has returned to his eternal home, where God’s mercy and forgiveness await.

We thank God for Fr. Tony’s life and blessings. We pray for his family during this difficult time, asking God to be with them.

As we bid farewell, we take comfort in knowing Fr. Tony now resides in a place of bliss, joy, mercy, love, and forgiveness. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen

Funeral rites were done by Archbishop Benny and large number of priests, religious and faithful witnessed his burial in cemetery at Gora Qabaristan (Cemetery), Karachi.
