Retreat: A Moment of Prayer, Reflection and Meditation

Quetta (Sr. Sumaira CSJ): The Annual Retreat of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery took place at St. Joseph’s Convent Nursery School, Khojak Road, Quetta Cantt from 17th to 25th of July 2023.

The theme for this year’s retreat was “Retreat, Restore & Revive.”

Resource person of the retreat was Fr. Thyagan Fonseka OMI, whose valuable insights centered on the significance of retreat. He emphasized that a retreat is a time to withdraw from the demands of our busy lives and allow ourselves the opportunity to restore our energy. It is a moment dedicated to prayer, reflection and meditation. To illustrate this, he referred to the Gospel of St. Mark 6:31, which advises us to find a solitary place to rest and spend time in silence, contemplating Jesus Christ.

Fr. Fonseka highlighted that spending quality time on a retreat can profoundly impact one’s spiritual journey. Just as our physical bodies require rest to rejuvenate, so too does our spirit need moments of retreat to empower and enrich us spiritually.

In his concluding remarks, Fr. Fonseka OMI stressed the importance of moments of solitude, silence and prayer, as they enhance our vision, allowing us to reevaluate and reinvigorate our spiritual energy. He shared the profound wisdom from the Psalms, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), emphasizing that retreats offer a spiritual journey to seek God within the tangible presence of His kingdom.

At the conclusion of the retreat, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Thyagan Fonseka OMI for his invaluable time and dedicated insights, which helped them offer thanks to God, the Creator, for His abundant blessings.
