Catholic Bible Commission Opens in Quetta Vicariate
The Catholic Bible Commission (CBC) officially launched its operations in the Quetta Vicariate on May 2nd, 2024, with a grand opening ceremony at Caritas Hall, Bishops’ House. His Excellency Bishop Khalid Rehmat OFM Cap, Bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Quetta, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The program commenced with a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, followed by a vibrant tableaux performance by the youth of St. Eugene Catholic Church, Quetta. Bishop Khalid Rehmat enthroned the Holy Bible, and Fr. Joseph Shahzad, the newly elected Executive Director of CBC Pakistan, lit the ceremonial candle.

The first session was led by Mr. Tariq, Secretary CBC Pakistan, who introduced the commission and its purpose. Fr. Joseph Shahzad then shared his vocational story and described the history, executive body, and working methodology of CBC. He expressed gratitude to Bishop Khalid Rehmat for supporting the promotion of the Bible in the Vicariate.
Bishop Khalid Rehmat addressed the gathering, thanking the CBC team and emphasizing the importance of promoting faith. He paid tribute to his mentor and former Executive Director, Fr. Emmanuel Asi, for his services to the church and commission. He also quoted Fr. Asi’s words, “If you are unable to read the Bible, you should at least see the words written in the Bible.” Finally, he extended best wishes to Fr. Joseph Shahzad in his new role.
The event concluded with Fr. Cecil Paul expressing gratitude to all participants, especially the CBC team, and assuring full support from the Vicariate.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in spreading the Word of God in the Quetta Vicariate, and we pray for the success of the Catholic Bible Commission in its noble mission.
