Bishop Samson Shukardin of Hyderabad hails healthcare workers

Hyderabad (Fr. Lazar Aslam OFM Cap.): On 26th February, 2022, an event was organized for all Christian health care professionals and for their compassionate services to humanity. The program was organized by Fr. Lazar Aslam OFM Cap (Chaplain of Hyderabad Diocese) and his team at Joti Educational and Cultural Centre, Mirpurkhas.




The program was started with Holy Mass. Bishop Samson Shukardin, Bishop of Hyderabad-Pakistan was the main celebrant while Fr. Shahzad Khokhar OFM Cap and Fr. Lazar Aslam OFM Cap were concelebrated. In his homily, he emphasized on the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. He first talked about the miracles of healing by our Lord Jesus Christ as in the Holy Gospel and further said that doctors & nurses are true heroes and are the second Messiah. They give life to people who come to them irrespective of race or religion. He prayed for all to remain steadfast in their vocation, responsibilities; even in difficult situations and serve the people with dedication and compassion. Rev. Srs. Saba Younis and Monica William FCJ prepared the liturgy. His Excellency also blessed the medicines which would be used at the free medical camp for deserving people.
The Holy Mass was followed by a variety program with wonderful performances. Sr. Afia Jalal FCJ (Principal of St. Teresa’s Nursing School) and Sr. Christina Liaquat were the MCs for the entire program. They along with the Nursing students prepared and presented the variety entertainment. First of all they welcomed all the distinguished guests. His Lordship was presented an Ajrak and Sindhi cap. The other guests were presented Ajraks too. The nursing students of St. Teresa’s Hospital prepared the welcome tableau and danced on different songs. The performance of the nursing students was highly appreciated by the guests. Sr. Christina presented the biography of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. It was indeed a very inspiring and thought provoking presentation.
Dr. Sabah Eric (Eye specialist) and Ms. Sumera Aftab (Principal, College of Nursing – Umerkot) were the guest speakers. Their topic of discussion was “Spiritual empowerment of Christian nurses.” Dr. Sabah in her speech appreciated the young nurses by quoting verses from the Holy Bible to strengthen their faith. Ms. Sumera in her beautiful message spoke about the young nurses as witnesses in Christ.
Closing:
At the end, Bishop Samson Shukardin shared his sentiments with the people. His Excellency appreciated Fr. Lazar Aslam and his team for the faith formation of the community. He also encouraged the youth to get education in order to live a worthy life in society. Fr. Lazar Aslam OFM Cap thanked Bishop Samson Shukardin for his availability and his love for the community. He also thanked all who had gathered and especially those who supported in different ways to make the program a success. At the end of the program candles were lit and a special prayer for Nurses was recited by all present.
The event was faith strengthening for the participants and a source of great encouragement to them. There was a group photo of the distinguished guests with His Excellency Bishop Samson Shukardin. Last but not least was a sumptuous meal prepared by Sr. Margaret James FCJ, Administrator-St. Teresa’s Hospital Mirpurkhas and enjoyed by the guests.
