St. Catherine of Siena: Saint, Mystic and Doctor
Bahawalpur: On April 29, 2024, the feast of St. Catherine of Siena, a 14th-century Dominican saint, reformer, and mystic, was joyfully celebrated at St. Dominic’s Parish Bahawalpur. The occasion was marked with great enthusiasm and religious fervor, bringing together the community to honor the life and legacy of this remarkable saint.
The celebration began with a Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Younas Shahzad OP, the Parish Priest, and con-celebrated by Fr. Nasir Emmanual OP, Fr. Yasir Paul OP and Fr. Irfan Christ OP, assisted by Deacon Bashir Francis OP and Deacon Nabeel Sheroz OP.
During the Mass, 10 postulants of the Lay Dominicans embarked on their Novitiate journey, marking an important milestone in their spiritual path.

In his homily, Fr. Irfan Christ OP highlighted St. Catherine’s extraordinary life, emphasizing her manifold gifts, love for Christ and neighbor, and her dedication to the Church as a saint, mystic, and Doctor of the Church. He praised the courage and commitment of the novitiate candidates and prayed for their perseverance during this significant period.
Following Holy Communion, rosaries were distributed to the candidates as a memento of Our Lady. The celebration continued with a thought-provoking drama performed by the students of the Dominican Study Center, skillfully directed by Sr. Nazia Shafi OP, the Principal. The program concluded with a tea gathering, fostering a sense of community and joy among all present.
As we celebrate the feast of St. Catherine of Siena, we seek her intercession and guidance. May her remarkable life and legacy inspire us to deepen our faith, embrace our calling, and serve the Church with dedication and love.
